Louisiana Contractors Accreditation Institute Business and Law Seminar


The Louisiana Contractors Accreditation Institute, a partnership between Louisiana Economic Development, Louisiana Community & Technical College System and the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors offers seminars and courses to small and emerging construction businesses that assist in building a solid foundation of knowledge within the construction industry.

The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors encourage and endorse this course to help small businesses learn the basic principles of how to be a better contractor. Completion of this course does not grant exemption of any licensing or examination requirements from the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors.

The Louisiana Contractors Accreditation Institute (LCAI) Business and Law Seminar provides small and emerging construction businesses critical information about construction management and operating a construction related business.

  • Six week course, with two hour sessions twice a week
  • Taught by industry leaders
  • Offered via Zoom, a fully interactive web-based video conferencing tool

Eligibility

The LCAI Business and Law Seminar is open to all who have the intent to start or currently have an established construction based Louisiana business


Getting Started 

Register for the upcoming LCAI Business and Law virtual course or sign up to be notified when registration opens.  


Next Steps

  1. When registration opens, apply at Fletcher Technical Community College and follow the steps to pay the $200 course fee.
  2. Attend at least 80% of the six-week course, with two-hour sessions twice a week to qualify for course completion

Q: Will this course satisfy the business and law requirement for licensure?
A:
No, LCAI’s Business and Law Seminar is not required for licensure. For information regarding licensure requirements, please contact the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors at 225.765.2301.

Q:
 I’m not in business yet. Can I still register for the LCAI Business and Law Seminar?
A:  Yes, if you are intent upon starting a construction related business you are eligible to attend the LCAI Business and Law Seminar. You do not have to be in business yet.

Q: I’m already in business and have my contractor’s license. Should I register for the LCAI Business and Law Seminar? 
A: Yes, the LCAI Business and Law Seminar can provide valuable industry information even for those who are already in business and/or already possess a contractor’s license.

Q: I have a non-construction related business, should I register for the LCAI Business and Law Seminar? 
A: No, not unless you have plans to open a construction based business. This class is tailored specifically for those that are in or plan on entering the construction industry. If you are interested in managerial or entrepreneurial training try looking into opportunities offered through LED’s Small and Emerging Business Development Program.

A: Topics covered are derived from the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies’ Contractors Guide to Business, Law and Project Management. The topics include but are not limited to: bid process, contract management, estimating, equipment management, scheduling, occupational safety, risk management, financial & business management, bonding/access to capital, certifications and available resources, and entrepreneurship training.

Q: Can I sign up and start attending the LCAI Business and Law Seminar any time during the year? 
A: No, the 6 week classes are scheduled on specific dates that can be found at the LCTCS information page and registration site, here.

Q: Can I attend the class from home?
A: Yes, the LCAI Business and Law seminar is being offered via Zoom, a web based video conference tool which can be accessed anywhere with internet connection

Q: Will the instructors be present in my class?
A: Yes, the instructors and guest speakers will present their material virtually via Zoom. Students will have the opportunity to ask the instructor or guest speaker questions and receive real-time answers.
