Gov. Edwards And Plastipak Packaging CEO William C. Young Announce Manufacturing Expansion In Pineville
PINEVILLE, La. — Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards and Plastipak Packaging President and CEO William C. Young announced the company will make a $15 million capital investment to expand production capacity at its manufacturing facility in Pineville, Louisiana. A leader in the production of rigid plastic containers for the food, beverage and consumer products industries, Plastipak will add up to seven production lines to increase capabilities of the site.
Plastipak will create 10 new direct jobs, averaging $40,000 per year, plus benefits, and LED estimates the project will result in another 22 indirect jobs, for a total of 32 new jobs. In addition, the company will retain 263 existing jobs at its Pineville facility. This is the second major expansion to Plastipak’s Pineville facility since 2015, when the company announced a $9 million investment for the addition of three new production lines.
“Plastipak’s new investment in its Pineville facility is a testament to the economic climate and highly skilled workforce here in Louisiana,” said Gov. John Bel Edwards. “Louisiana’s business climate is one in which companies can not only make an initial investment, but also thrive and make continued reinvestments and expansions, just like Plastipak is doing today. We are proud and grateful for their continued dedication to Central Louisiana, and we congratulate them on their expansion, which is resulting in new job opportunities for hard-working Louisianans.”
Founded in 1967, Plastipak designs, manufactures and distributes rigid plastic packaging for some of the world’s largest consumer products companies. Plastipak is headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan, and is still owned and operated by members of the Young family. It currently operates more than 27 sites in the United States, South America and Europe, with a total of more than 5,800 employees. Plastipak established a presence in Louisiana with the construction of its Pineville facility in 2003.
“Plastipak is extremely appreciative of the continued support it has received from Governor Edwards, Louisiana Economic Development, Mayor Fields, CLECO, the local community and many local organizations,” said Young. “The Louisiana officials were eager to collaborate with Plastipak’s local and corporate management team in an effort to locate this project in Central Louisiana. Plastipak continues to be impressed with the business-friendly environment in Central Louisiana and the state of Louisiana.”
LED began working with Plastipak on plans for the new expansion in May 2017. To secure the project, the State of Louisiana offered a competitive incentive package that includes the services of LED FastStart® – the nation’s No. 1-ranked state workforce development program. In addition, the company is expected to utilize the state’s Quality Jobs and Industrial Tax Exemption programs.
“We are thrilled that Plastipak Packaging is making another investment to strengthen their footprint in Pineville,” said Pineville Mayor Clarence R. Fields. “Plastipak has been a great partner in both economic and community development the past 14 years, and this expansion makes a strong statement that the best is yet to come. Congratulations to the Young family and all the dedicated Pineville employees that make this plant the continued success that it is for Plastipak worldwide.”
Plastipak will begin the installation of the new production lines at its 862,000-square-foot Pineville facility in the third quarter of 2017, with an expected completion by the end of the fourth quarter. Hiring for the 10 new positions will also begin in the third quarter of 2017 and will continue through the fourth quarter.
“Our manufacturing base is the key to prosperity in Central Louisiana,” said President and CEO Jim Clinton of the Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance. “Plastipak is a major contributor to that success and we are pleased to see the company again adding jobs and making new investments. Plastipak is one of the main reasons we can say that Central Louisiana Makes Good Stuff.”
“Cleco is committed to helping our customers, like Plastipak, as well as regional and state economic development agencies, such as CLEDA and LED, attract, retain and grow businesses in Louisiana,” said Jeff Baudier, chief marketing and development officer for Cleco. “Plastipak is a world-class company, and we are proud to be a part of its success by supplying safe, reliable power at competitive rates.”
