Ochsner Living Liver Transplant Program

The state’s only living liver transplant program resides at the Ochsner Transplant Institute. The surgical procedure restores liver health to patients waiting for a full liver transplant. By taking a portion of the liver from a healthy volunteer donor and replacing the recipient’s damaged liver, this type of transplant saves lives and reduces wait times. Living liver transplants are possible because of the liver’s unique ability to regenerate or regrow. Ochsner’s team of transplant surgeons have performed more than 3,000 adult and pediatric liver transplants.
