Killian Named Louisiana Development Ready Community
KILLIAN, La. – Louisiana Economic Development recognized the city of Killian as the state’s newest Louisiana Development Ready Community. It is the 52nd participant in the community development program, now in its 14th year.
The Louisiana Development Ready Communities program helps participants become more competitive for new investment and jobs by guiding selected communities through the process of creating and implementing a strategic economic development plan. By following its plan for multiple years, participants leverage local assets and address unique challenges to empower business growth in their communities.
“On behalf of LED, congratulations to the many business and community leaders who had the foresight and initiative to lay a foundation for economic growth in Killian,” LED Secretary Don Pierson said. “The Louisiana Development Ready Communities program can make a big difference in small towns like Killian, by demonstrating to potential investors their willingness and ability to provide the necessary support for new and expanding businesses to succeed. We encourage other communities in Livingston Parish to take advantage of the program’s powerful attributes.”
The town administration, tourism partners and community leaders from Killian were all part of the team that helped secure the LDRC designation. Through the distribution of community surveys, multiple town hall meetings and many committee meetings, the team identified strengths and opportunities for additional growth, all directed at positioning the town for enhanced strategic economic growth.
“Killian will remain focused on its country values and way of life, while moving into an exciting time,” Mayor Kenny Bayhi said. “The measured growth based on tourism, our scenic rivers and abundant nature will provide a way of life second to none for generations to come. Becoming the first town in Livingston Parish to receive this designation is a testament to the past as much as the future of Killian.”
