Registration Opens for Louisiana Residential Construction Seminar

BATON ROUGE, La. — Enrollment is open for the Residential Contractors Seminar, one of three key programs in the Louisiana Contractors Accreditation Institute. LCAI’s latest Residential Contractors Seminar will be conducted remotely for contractors throughout the state via web-based video conferencing.

Registration will conclude June 4. To enroll, visit OpportunityLouisiana.com/LCAI-RC and click the “Apply Now” button.

The 10-week course will be offered from June 7 to Aug. 11. It will feature two-hour sessions twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. All information and materials presented in the sessions will focus on residential construction. A $350 fee covers the cost of the course and materials.

Topics to be covered include print reading; building calculations; site work, demolition and construction; foundations, formwork and retaining walls; finishes; roof structures; structural loads; wood framing construction; related trades; special construction and equipment; and safety codes.

The seminar provides technical knowledge essential for a contractor to take advantage of business opportunities in the residential construction industry, from new residential construction to home improvement projects.

A training institute for small contractors and those looking to start a construction-related business, LCAI was launched in 2016 to meet the needs of the state’s growing construction industry. The program is sponsored by Louisiana Economic Development, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System and the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. The residential seminar was added in 2019.

Other contractor accreditation courses planned for 2021 include the Business and Law Seminar, Oct. 4-Nov. 10. Since 2016, more than 1,100 participants have graduated from the contractor seminars.
