LIDEA To Host Sessions On Role Of Elected Leaders In Economic Development

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association, or LIDEA, has teamed up with the Louisiana Municipal Association, Louisiana Economic Development and CLECO to host a series of one-day classes on The Role of Elected Leaders in Economic Development. Local and state elected officials are encouraged to attend a class to learn more about economic development efforts in Louisiana and the important roles that elected officials play in securing economic-driver projects in the state.

“Louisiana always makes a compelling case for businesses looking for a new place to invest, and our communities are especially competitive when a team of leaders and economic developers on the local, regional and state levels comes together with a shared goal,” LED Secretary Don Pierson said. “LIDEA, LMA, CLECO and LED have all partnered to ensure that local leaders in communities across Louisiana are aligned with the tools they need to give their respective communities a competitive edge.”

The classes, which are free and include lunch, will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in five locations across Louisiana:

• Baton Rouge on Sept. 7
• Alexandria on Sept. 13
• Hammond on Sept. 20
• Lake Charles on Sept. 27
• Arcadia on Oct. 4.

Classes will include the following topics: Economic Development Fundamentals, Building a Team and Brand, Community and Economic Development, and Thinking Regionally. The same courses will be taught at all locations. The class will include three case studies on projects in Louisiana, with participants using the information provided to determine the outcome best-suited for their respective local economies.
